Mineral Make-ups Rock!By Dana Sullivan, Delicious Living

Cosmetics made from ground-up rocks? Surprise: Mineral-based colors are one of the hottest trends in natural beauty care. With color derived from powdered Earth-sourced materials–blue comes from Mexican lapis; orange comes from Arizona mudstone–mineral make-up sits on the skin’s surface, so it won’t clog pores. Plus, people who switch from conventional makeup to minerals often find that problems like acne and rosacea disappear, thanks to minerals’ anti-inflammatory and cooling properties.

How to choose a mineral make-up: Look for products with oil bases derived from plants and flowers, as well as coloring agents such as iron oxide, manganese, and chromium oxide. Avoid fillers such as talc–a potential carcinogen often used in powdered cosmetics–and remember that even natural additives like mica and bismuth oxychloride can aggravate sensitive skin. For your lips, read ingredient lists for hydrating plant bases, such as olive oil, jojoba, and shea butter.

I'm 54 years old and have skin (and hair) that cause people to think I'm in my thirties. I've used mineral make-up for years and been thrilled with it. My skin is sensitive and in my forties started to look "worn" as well as inflamed and blotchy. Switching to minerals made a huge difference for me.
I have found that not all mineral make-ups are the same. What soothes my skin inflames my best-friend's and vice versa. Shopping around is worthwhile.
And - as with any make-up - a clean brush is absolutely essential. I use gentle shampoo for mine and allow them to air dry thoroughly

The anti-inflammatory and cooling properties or these types of cosmetics is a great reason to give them a try. Who can't use that!?

I love mineral makeup, it feels weighless on the face and is a natural suncreen. I carry a line at http://www.cleure.com/lizhazelmyer
